WELCOME TO BEHIND ALL BARS
BEHIND ALL BARS is a site designed as a bartending guide to the bartending profession, including bartending schools, bartending books, frequently asked questions, drink recipes, blogs, articles and general information related to the rapidly growing food and beverage industry for any prospective student. It will also be helpful to currently working bartenders, food servers, managers and owners or anyone just interested in the field of bartending. This site will be continuously updated with new and additional information and links to other sites.
As you enter, you'll be knocking on the door of opportunity. Open the door and you will be entering the exciting, fun-filled world of bartending! It's a world that is filled with music, entertainment, celebrities, sports, TV, conversation, joke telling and people just out to have a good time. Does your current boss (not your spouse!) let you have the remote, watch TV, listen to a live band or talk and joke around while at work? Where would you like to bartend? ....... Restaurants, night clubs, hotels, cruise ships, Broadway Theaters, airports .... how about Disney World, Beaches, Sandals, Club Med, PGA golf courses .... you pick!
The goal of this site is to give you a "real life" approach to bartending in today's rapidly growing food and beverage industry. Picture yourself behind a real, authentic bar .... or have you already done that?
Would you like Sex on the Beach, a Slow Comfortable Screw, a Climax or Orgasm? Maybe a Multiple or Screaming Orgasm would be more intense and to your liking? If you're hot .... cool off with an Iced Tea .... Long Island, of course! Would making money doing these interest you? Well, we're not talking about the world's oldest profession! What we are talking about is the exciting profession of bartending!
Some folks, perhaps would like a Gin & Tonic, Rum & Coke, Malibu Bay Breeze, White Russian, Martini or Manhattan, a Cosmopolitan, a glass of wine or a nice cold beer served in a frosted mug, to name a few. There are literally thousands of drinks that people will not order, and don't even know exist, including bartenders and the author of this site. You will find that most people still tend to order drinks by ingredients rather than by name. For example, you will have someone order a Vodka & Cranberry and not ask for a Cape Cod/ Cape Codder. A customer might ask for a Vodka & Orange Juice instead of a Screwdriver. They'll order a liquor and tell you what soda they want with it. If you question bartenders, you will learn that people add ingredients, change ingredients and make all kinds of concoctions, but we don't care, because they're drinking it and paying for it! We'll put anything in a glass! ........ Well, almost!
There are, however, drinks listed that are ordered few and far between as the years go by. As the generations from the 1930's, 40's and 50's move on, certain drinks will go by the wayside, making way for new ones that are popular with today's clientele. It's not necessary to waste time on obsolete drinks. Remember that bartending is not a science. There are many variations of drinks and also the way each bartender makes them. You've probably noticed that when you order the same drink in different establishments some are better (to your taste) than others. It's OK to ask a certain bartender to make them for you or ask a server to ask the bartender. You might go into the establishment when your favorite bartenders are on duty. This is how bartenders build a following. Bartenders should make a delicious, cost-efficient (remember it's not your liquor) and attractively presented drink. It's a win-win situation! The customer, the establishment and most importantly ......you! Those green bills in your pocket sure make your ride home more pleasurable!
A horse walks into a bar and the bartender says "Why such a long face?" (sorry.... I had to sneak one in!)
